Ecopsychology is a budding field that recognizes the complex interconnection, interaction, and interdependence between the natural world and the human aspect of this world. It is a cross-pollination among the sciences and humanities that provides a critical and necessary understanding that the well being, the flourishing of the planet and that of the human and non human world must include sustainable and mutually enhancing relationships.
Biologists, with their ever more subtle and complex knowledge of the natural world, have provided us with a rich field of imagery. Psychologists have also contributed to the repertoire of imagery with their ever richer descriptions of the human psyche, and of the mind. Depth psychologists, in particular, have deepened our understanding of archetypes and shadow, or unknown elements of the psyche or soul. This lens allows us to more deeply mine rich ecopsychological concepts.
Ecopsychology places human psychology in an ecological context, thereby ecologizing our psychology and psychologizing our ecological understanding. Our goal is to examine ideas for psychological, ecological and cultural restoration.
Ecopsychology Training Curriculum
Ecopsychology Training Course Description:
This 6-month training course will offer comparisons from principles of depth psychology with corresponding principles in biology and ecology in order to help us understand how metaphors and images can either hold a framework or mythology in place, or stimulate the creation of a change in attitudes and behaviors, in other words - the creation of a new mythology toward Self, each other, and the natural world.
It emphasizes relationships between personal, community, organizational, economic, social, ecological and ethical issues. We will review fundamental concepts in ecology, depth and archetypal psychology and explore their relevance to ecopsychology.
We'll discuss ideas for how and why change is required for ecosystem health, and discuss how a sustainable psychological system encourages the development of sustainable natural systems, organizational systems, political and educational systems.
The Certificate in Ecopsychology Training is recommended for those seeking in-depth training for how to utilize ecopsychology in practical and meaningful ways. This course is geared for clinicians, health care practitioners, educators, natural resource managers, landscape and urban planners, environmental consultants, ecological designers, those working in non-profit sectors, communications consultants, community leaders, and environmental and social change advocates.
